Leaving Podia? The good news — this is one of the easier cancellations out there. I'll be honest — Podia isn't trying to trap you. Their cancellation process is straightforward, and they even offer free migration assistance if you're moving to another platform. That's unusual. So why do people leave? Two main reasons. First, the five percent transaction fee on Podia's Mover plan. If you're selling courses regularly, that adds up fast. At a thousand dollars a month in sales, you're losing fifty dollars on top of your subscription. Second, the course tools are limited. No quizzes, no drip content scheduling, no native Zoom integration. If you mostly need a storefront for digital downloads, Podia works well. But if you're building structured courses with real learning outcomes... you'll probably outgrow it. Before you cancel, export everything you need. Start with your email list — go to the Audience section and download as CSV. This is your most valuable asset. Next, download your course files. Videos, PDFs, digital downloads... save them locally. Then save your sales page copy. It doesn't transfer. Here's something important about Podia's timeline. Your site goes dark immediately when the cancellation takes effect. But Podia keeps your data for one hundred eighty days. If you change your mind and resubscribe within that window, everything gets restored. And on refunds — there's a seventy-two hour window after your most recent renewal. If you contact them within that window, you can get a refund. Miss it, and you'll keep access until your billing period ends... but no money back. To cancel — click your name in the top left, go to Billing, click Manage next to your plan, then Cancel Plan. It takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle. Before that date, email your students. Let them know you're moving, tell them where to find you, and give them a timeline. If any students have active subscriptions or payment plans through Podia... those get cancelled automatically when your account closes. Give affected students at least two weeks to prepare. The move itself is usually quick. Most course platforms let you upload your content and rebuild in a weekend. Podia doesn't make leaving hard — that's to their credit. I wrote a complete guide covering exports, the refund window, student communication, and what to look for in your next platform. Link in the description. Updated for March twenty twenty-six.

If you're cancelling Podia, the most important things to know: you have a 72-hour refund window after renewal, your data is stored for 180 days after cancellation, and all student subscriptions are cancelled when your account closes. Here's how to handle the process and protect your content.

    Step-by-Step Cancellation

The cancellation process in Podia is straightforward:

    1. Click your name in the top left corner of your Podia dashboard.
    2. Select Billing.
    3. Click Manage next to the plan you want to cancel.
    4. Select Cancel Plan.
    5. Confirm the cancellation and optionally provide feedback.

Your cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle. You will not be charged again, and your site will remain accessible until that date.

    The 72-Hour Refund Window

Podia's refund policy is narrow but clear: contact them within 72 hours of your most recent monthly or annual renewal or upgrade, and they'll refund the most recent charge. Miss that window, and refunds are not available.

This means if you're on an annual plan and decide to leave mid-year, you won't receive a pro-rated refund. You'll keep access until the annual period ends, but the payment is final. Set a calendar reminder a week before your renewal date if you're considering cancelling — this gives you time to export your data and make the decision before the window closes.

    Before You Cancel: Export Everything

When your Podia account is cancelled, your site goes offline and your products become inaccessible. Export what you can:

    • Email/audience list. Export as CSV from the Audience section. This is your most critical export — your email list is your business asset regardless of what platform you use.
    • Course content. Download videos, PDFs, and uploaded files. Lesson text needs to be copied manually — there's no bulk content export.
    • Digital downloads. Re-download any files you've uploaded as digital products.
    • Sales and transaction data. Export any financial reports you need for your records.
    • Email campaigns. If you use Podia's built-in email marketing, save your email templates and automation sequences. These can't be exported directly — document them so you can rebuild in your next tool.

    The 180-Day Safety Net

One thing Podia does well: they store your content for 180 days after cancellation. If you change your mind, you can log back in, choose a plan, and everything is restored — courses, files, audience data, all of it. After 180 days, though, your data is permanently deleted.

This is genuinely generous compared to most platforms, which delete data immediately or within 30 days. But don't rely on it as your backup plan — export everything locally before cancelling.

    What Happens to Student Subscriptions

This is the part that requires the most planning. When you cancel your Podia account:

    • All recurring subscriptions and payment plans are cancelled automatically.
    • Students are no longer charged.
    • Students lose access to your courses and community.

Communicate early. Give your students at least 2-4 weeks' notice before cancelling. Let them know where they can find you next and how their access will be handled during the transition. If you're moving to a new platform, consider honoring existing access for students who've already paid.

What Podia Does Well (Being Fair)

Podia has genuine strengths. The all-in-one approach — courses, coaching, downloads, community, and email marketing in a single platform — is appealing for creators who want simplicity. The interface is clean and beginner-friendly. Support is available 7 days a week. And the 180-day data retention after cancellation is more generous than most competitors.

If your needs align with what Podia offers, it's a solid platform.

    Why People Leave Podia

We've had about 35 support conversations where educators mention Podia. The patterns are specific:

The 5% transaction fee on Mover. Podia's entry-level Mover plan ($33/month annual) charges a 5% fee on every sale. For a creator earning $3,000/month, that's $150/month in fees — nearly as much as the subscription itself. To eliminate the fee, you need to upgrade to the Shaker plan at $75/month. One educator came to us specifically because she needed affiliate tracking features that Podia's Mover plan didn't include, and the Shaker upgrade to get them was more than she wanted to pay.

Limited exercise and feedback tools. One educator migrated to Ruzuku specifically because "Podia does not offer the option of exercises" — she needed students to submit work and receive feedback, which is essential for professional training courses.

No free plan. Podia retired its free plan in late 2024. New creators now must commit to a paid plan after a 30-day trial. For educators who want to build their course at their own pace before investing, this creates pressure.
